Small Business Spotlight: M.O.M.'s House of Ashville

If you are a scrapbooker, a quilter or any other type of crafter, odds are you have dreamed of having some uninterrupted time to practice your hobby. To share a space with friends while you scrapbook and snack away from the distractions of home probably sounds like the very best kind of vacation.

What if we told you there’s a place in Ashville that specializes in giving crafters exactly this kind of experience? In fact, it attracts guests from all over Ohio and from across the nation to convene for crafts and fun with other crafters.

It’s called Mom’s House and it’s a sister business to local craft store Made on Main. Both the house and the store are owned by Tiffany Jackson who opened the store to sell all manner of supplies for scrapbooking, cross stitch, painting, quilting and general crafts and the house as a retreat for making things.

M.O.M.’s House is a dream come true for any crafter.

The home is divided into two parts. One side sleeps up to ten guests upstairs.

The other side sleeps up to twelve guests and has a handicap accessible bedroom for four guests and a handicap accessible bathroom downstairs. Loft space and bathrooms for an additional eight guests complete the accommodations on this side of the house. Each half has a full kitchen and dining room, a large screen television and WIFI.

There is also a hot tub, grill and patio shared by the entire house.

The true showstopper at M.O.M.’s House is the crafting space. Each crafter gets their own table, cutting mat and task light with built-in electric outlets. No need to search for an outlet for your sewing machine or devices! Plus, each crafter gets their own top-quality gaming chair which is designed for sixteen hours of comfortable sitting.

“Everything here is about making it easy for people to come together to make and play,” Tiffany said. “Crafters tend to sit and work for a long time. They like to snack and talk and feel at home. We try to make sure that’s as easy as possible.”

To that end, guests will find a Keurig, some snacks, a fridge stocked with soft drinks and the option to have food brought in for them. Tiffany said they provide a continental breakfast as well as a hearty lunch. However, some guests may choose to prepare their own food.

It is clear that much thought was put into the amenities and creature comforts to make guests feel at home. The bedrooms feature what Tiffany calls “train cars” for sleeping. These nooks have their own reading lights and electric outlets along with curtains for privacy. There are also some twin beds for those who don’t enjoy the coziness of the train cars.

Centrally located in Ohio, M.O.M’s House is just twenty minutes south of Columbus and a great location for friends and family to come together and make things. She said that her store and retreat attract shoppers and guests from all over the country. In fact, many are return guests and some plan multiple retreats every year. In fact, the first guests have returned to M.O.M.’s House every quarter since their initial visit in 2022. “People love that it feels like home. They like the price point because it’s a good deal. They love the train cars and they love that there’s a craft store down the street if they need anything while they’re here. It has been a really good thing for Ashville because people who might not ordinarily come here are now finding our town and the good things we offer here.”

Over at her craft store, participating in an Ohio wide shop hop attracts about an extra 1,000 customers to her store every July. She creates a passport to encourage those customers to visit other businesses in town.  “They spend money with me and with Jackie Ray’s or with the coffee shop. Many of them will love it here and come back another day to spend more time. It’s important to share the wealth and to partner any chance we get. Small businesses have to stick together!”

For any kind of crafter, quilter or scrapbooker, M.O.M.’s House is the ideal place to recharge and reset, to be creative and to play. It’s a place to get lost in what you’re making and to find yourself along the way. It’s a place to celebrate creativity and to have fun with friends. Want to learn more about M.O.M.’s House?
