Small Business Spotlight: Queen Bee Cleaning

Imagine coming home after a long day of work to find it clean, tidy and smelling nice. This is a reality for the many individuals and families who use Queen Bee Cleaning. This local business provides quality service with a personal touch to suit the cleaning needs of residences, small commercial office spaces, and short-term rentals.

When Sarah Young Bentley started Queen Bee in 2021, it was a side gig to earn a few extra dollars for her family. “I started cleaning houses by myself for fun and for some extra cash,” she explained.

That’s right. She started cleaning because she finds it fun and rewarding. “I love the instant gratification of cleaning that most jobs don’t offer. I also love to make a difference for someone else. It means a lot to people to have fewer tasks to do and to have more free time.”

Sarah knows something about the value of free time. As a mom of three young kids, she says she spends a lot of time in the car and seeing to the growing needs of her 3, 5 and 10-year old youngsters. “Some days it feels like I only drive and pick up kids! So, I have the girls clean my house too. That way I can see how they clean and know they will do good work for others. To some people it may seem trivial but cleaning matters to me. Besides, it feels amazing to come home and feel like I can sit down for two minutes and relax without guilt!”

The “girls” are her crew of four women who clean for Queen Bee. She makes a point to hire single mothers and they mostly work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. so they are able to get their kids off to school before work and be around to take care of their home lives in the evenings. “I was a single mom so I get how hard it is to be there for your kids and to earn a living. There’s nothing worse than feeling guilty for leaving your kids behind for work or for not being able to work because of your family.”

Sarah also notes that every household is different and that it’s important to meet her customers where their needs are. They can do a one-time cleaning as well as weekly, bi-weekly and monthly cleanings. She said that every customer is a little different as some will just need their homes cleaned while others will ask for light housekeeping and tidying like putting away toys or washing a few dishes. “People will message and ask what we do but it’s not that simple. Some professional cleaners set what they will do. I don’t because I want to know what the person needs for this to be a good arrangement for them.”

She said that some people are too embarrassed to have help from a cleaner while others may feel the need to preclean before the Queen Bees arrive. “People sometimes are embarrassed and that makes me sad. We don’t judge and we don’t talk about the homes. I hire people I know and trust and make sure everyone understands that we’re there to help where we can. Our slogan is professional cleaning with a personal touch. It’s important to feel like it was worth letting someone into their home.”

She indicated that her cleaning services have been a popular gift from adult children to their parents and from husbands to wives but that the gift of a clean home is ideal for anyone of any age.

Her rates are set to keep this luxury affordable for the average household. The first cleaning is typically four hours for $140. This gives the cleaner an opportunity to estimate how much time will be needed for regular cleanings. Then price adjusted to an hourly rate. She said this is important because every home and every household’s needs are different. That price includes the services of a trained cleaner, transportation, insurance, and all cleaning supplies and goodies they need to make a home sparkle.

Queen Bee Cleaning currently serves Vinton, Jackson, Hocking and Ross counties. Contact them via their Facebook page or call Sarah directly at 740.418.2710.
