Small Business Spotlight: The Robin’s Nest Home Décor Market

Being a small business owner is hard work! That's why we feature local businesses in our Small Business Spotlight Series every month!

The vibe inside The Robin’s Nest Home Décor Market is comfort and calm. You’ll feel yourself slow down to admire all the treasures artfully displayed throughout two rooms. The atmosphere is rounded out by soft lighting and a pleasant smell that makes the shop feel a little like a warm hug.

Owner Sherri Morgan always wanted to have her own home décor store. She loved the idea of a creative space where she could help others find and embrace their own personal style for their homes. As much as she loved the idea, life just kept getting in the way of making her dream come true.

As a wife, mother, grandmother and caregiver, her home life was full. Plus, she and her husband, Mark, own the Morgan Funeral Home in Bremen making life even more hectic. In January of this year, Sherri found herself lacking purpose and craving a sense of creativity.

With encouragement and support from her husband, Sherri leapt at the opportunity to follow her dreams. Today she’s the proud owner of this quality store in downtown Lancaster as she helps others feather their nest and create spaces they will love.

This little gem feels a little like coming home – or at least the home you wish to have because it’s so comfortable, warm and inviting. A selection of furniture, wall art, throw pillows, florals, rugs, candles and small decorative items are so carefully curated that it would be possible to decorate an entire home mostly with merchandise from here. Yet, subtle differences in styles, textures and materials presents pieces that appeal to many different tastes. In fact, she credits her three grown daughters for the influence they bring to her store. “They give me the boho, the light and airy, the trendy touches. But I bring things that feel grounding. The textures and colors that help me feel centered,” she explained.

Every piece in her store represents an intentional decision meant to give shoppers choice among unique pieces and things that will fuel their own creativity. You won’t find her selections in a big box store.

Sherri chose the name Robin’s nest because she relates to the purpose a robin brings to the home. “A robin is always busy building a nest for her family. Building a nest and creating a space that’s a reflection of her and that gives comfort to her family. Plus . . . I like pretty things!” she exclaimed.

She plans to expand the business to offer more interior design services. “When I told my husband this is something I wanted to do, he was so supportive. He asked ‘what do you have to lose? You’ll gain knowledge, experience, creativity. You can’t lose’ and I knew he was right,” she said. “So here we are and I love coming to work!”

When asked what advice she offers regarding home décor, she has a lot to say. “Embrace color and texture. Don’t shy away from the things that give a room character and warmth and that will make your space a reflection of you. Don’t be afraid of color. Pick a color and go with it whether that’s white or black. Just choose a color and repeat, repeat, repeat. Also, don’t be afraid of large pieces. A large statement piece will bring your room together,” she said.

Sherri is grateful to her regular customers and to her supportive family. She also credits Destination Downtown Lancaster and the Lancaster Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce for their support. “I’m grateful to everyone who has helped me so far. My hope is that the community will embrace this place and find as much comfort here as I have found in creating it So, make sure to stop by the Robin’s Nest to see for yourself what will make your house a home.”
